OBITUARY: (PLYMPTON)
Laurent Charles Picard Jr., aged 62 years, resident of Plympton, MA, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 17, 2014. Larry was home, with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was the beloved husband of Sally Jane (Squires) Picard; they had been married for almost 27 years. He was born in New Bedford, the son of the late Laurent Charles Sr. and Rita Irene (Rock) Picard. Larry received his GED from New Bedford Vocational School and was employed most of his life, by a family-run business, Goyette’s Autoparts, Inc. of New Bedford. He was an active member of Tabernacle of Praise Church in Wareham where he served various positions including Head Trustee, Sunday school teacher, Children’s church teacher and served on the Benevolence Committee for the needy. Larry’s interests were reading his Bible, fishing, camping, biking and spending time outdoors with his family and friends. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his devoted wife Sally; loving daughter Jennifer M. Picard and Robert Johnson Jr, father of his three beloved grandchildren – Angelina, Sabrina and Salina, all of New Bedford; devoted son U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Jonathan D. Picard of Acushnet and Jon’s faithful companion, Alanna Fesser, of Miami, FL. Baby Karen, daughter, pre-deceased Larry. Larry’s brothers include Gary and his wife Sheila of Fairhaven; Dennis and his wife Debra of Warwick, RI and Richard and his faithful companion Sandra Monteiro of New Bedford. Larry’s sisters include Jacquelyn and her husband Michael Allain of New Bedford; Christine and her husband Tony Lucianno of Somerset. Larry is survived by a very large family including several aunts and uncles, 18 nieces and nephews and 22 great-nieces and nephews, along with his long-time faithful friend, Ray Jesus. Larry was also the former husband of Rita Sansoucy (Lachapelle) of Acushnet, who is the mother of his children. The wake will be held on Friday, May 23rd in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St Middleboro, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 24th at 11 am at Tabernacle of Praise, 189 Hathaway St., West Wareham, MA. A private interment will be held at the Nemasket Hill Cemetery, Middleboro. In lieu of flowers, please make donations, in Larry’s memory, to the Chanya Family Ministries (for an orphanage in Malawi, Africa), 28 Pheasant Ave., Wareham, MA 02571. A special note of thanks to Larry’s devoted Care Giver and sister-in-law, Sharon P. Crowell, R.N., for the excellent, loving care and support that she provided.
