OBITUARY: (TAUNTON)
James Healey, aged 81 years, passed away at Morton Hospital on May 9, 2013, after a brief illness. He was born in Brockton, MA, on March 26, 1932. He was the husband of Shirley (Newton) Healey; they had been married for 57 years. Jim was a 1950 graduate of Middleboro High School. He served in the Army, Sergeant First Class, during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years and then spent 25 years working at Heritage Hill and Poquoy Brook Country Clubs. Jim was a founding father of the Mitchell Memorial Club. His passion and understanding of the importance of youth sports lead him in the direction as one of the developers and coaches of the MMC pee wee, midget football, little league programs, and Boy Scout leader. He also played for the MMC semi-pro football team. As selectman of the town of Lakeville for 15 years, some of his accomplishments included; the acquisition of the Wilkie’s Property Preservation Act and the Ted Williams Property. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Tara Holmes of Kettle Falls, WA, Jana Pfeiffer of Richman, MA; his son, Kevin James Healey of Wheat Ridge, CO, and his three grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 13th from 2-6 pm in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St Middleboro, with a celebration of his life to be held at the Mitchell Memorial Club, immediately following.
